As for Iron Man, we know that his helmet displays a HUD interface, displaying the suit's condition, energy levels, etc. ... Tony's just a man left in a two ton suit of armor falling out of the sky, with two slits to peer out of while he falls. Without a fully operational suit, he's blind.
