A switching regulator controller with high power and efficiency, the LTC? 1553 is designed for 5V or 12V input to 1.8V–3.5V output applications. A precision internal reference, a digitally programmable output voltage, and an internal feedback mechanism provide it output accuracy of 1.5% at ambient temperature and typically 2% over-temperature, load current, and line voltage variations. The LTC1553 offers great efficiency and does away with the necessity for a high power, high cost P-channel device by using synchronous switching architecture with two external N-channel output devices. Additionally, it senses the output current across the upper N-channel FET's on-resistance to provide a programmable current limit without the use of an additional sense resistor of low value.
