A 48 pin TQFP package houses the 16-bit general-purpose PIC24FJ256GA705-I/PT from Microchip, which has 256Kbytes of flash memory and 16Kbytes of RAM. To keep the currents very low, it provides a variety of power down modes. For dependable operation, the device includes in-circuit serial programming (ICSP) and in-circuit emulation (ICE) via two pins, oscillator start-up timer (OST), power-on reset (POR), brown-out reset (BOR), programmable low voltage detect (LVD), flexible watchdog timer (WDT), and its own RC oscillator. Three 16-bit timers, two I2C ports, three SPI ports with variable width, two LIN-USART/IrDA ports, twelve EPMP (address/data lines), two customizable logic cells (CLC), a real-time clock and calendar (RTCC), and JTAG interfaces are all included in this microcontroller. For significant power reduction and quick wake-up, peripherals and/or the core are selectively turned off in sleep and idle modes.
