A low-cost, highly integrated solution for one-, two-, and three-phase electricity meters that need powerful 32-bit processing capability, precision analog, security, and HMI functionality is provided by Kinetis M series MCUs, which are based on the 32-bit ARM Cortex-M0+ core. Power calculations are possible with an accuracy of 0.1 percent because of the robust analog front ends that each MCU has and may be configured for different geographic areas. A real-time, high-accuracy clock produces a temperature drift of less than 5 PPM. Freescale offers metrology firmware that can calculate active, reactive, and perceived power using a number of different algorithms. Customers can review pre-certified reference designs for Europe, China, India, the United States, and Japan.
