An interface between a Controller Area Network (CAN) protocol controller and the actual two-wire CAN bus is provided by the TJA1042 high-speed CAN transceiver. The transceiver is made for high-speed CAN applications in the automobile industry, giving (a microcontroller with) a CAN protocol controller the differential transmit and receive functionality. The third generation of high-speed CAN transceivers from NXP Semiconductors, the TJA1042, offers a number of advantages over earlier models like the TJA1040. It has enhanced electrostatic discharge (ESD) and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) performance, as well as the following features: The current ISO11898 standard's definition of the CAN physical layer is implemented by the TJA1042. Additional timing parameters determining loop delay symmetry are given in anticipation of the publication of the updated version of ISO11898-2 incorporating CAN FD. With this solution, data rates up to 2 Mbit/s may be reliably transmitted during the CAN FD fast phase. The TJA1042 is a great option for all kinds of HS-CAN networks in nodes that require a low-power mode with CAN bus wake-up capabilities because of these qualities.
