The BQ24650RVAT is a synchronous switch-mode integrated Battery-charge Controller for solar power that provides input voltage management and limits charge current when the input voltage falls below a programmed level. When the input is powered by a solar panel, the input regulation loop reduces the charge current to allow the solar panel to produce the maximum amount of energy. A constant-frequency synchronous PWM controller with high accuracy current and voltage regulation is provided by the BQ24650. Pre-conditioning, constant current, and constant voltage are three phases in which the charge controller charges the battery. When the current hits 1/10 of the rapid charge rate, the charge is terminated. The timer for the pre-charge is set to 30 minutes. If the battery voltage goes below an internal threshold, the charge controller automatically resumes the charge cycle, and when the input voltage falls below the battery voltage, the charge controller enters a low quiescent current sleep mode.
