There is an optimized performance in this voltage regulator because it utilizes the Tube package. A voltage regulator consists of 7 terminations. As a matter of fact, the type of analog IC that this voltage regulator 12v is equipped with is called SWITCHING REGULATOR. For space-saving purposes, this voltage regulator is available in the TO-220-7 (Formed Leads) package. In this case, DC DC switching regulator has 1 outputs configured to it.
