There are multiple devices in the MSP430 family of ultra-low-power microcontrollers, such as MSP430F2002IPW. each with a unique set of peripherals aimed at a distinct purpose. In portable measurement applications, the architecture and five low-power modes are optimized to extend battery life. The system includes a potent 16-bit RISC CPU, 16-bit registers, and constant generators that help the code run as efficiently as possible. In less than one second, the digitally controlled oscillator (DCO) enables wake-up from low-power modes to active mode.

An ultra-low-power mixed signal microcontroller with ten I/O pins and an integrated 16-bit timer is the MSP430F20xx series. The MSP430F20x1 also contains a flexible analog comparator. The MSP430F20x2 and MSP430F20x3 include synchronous protocols (SPI or I2C) and either a 10-bit A/D converter (MSP430F20x2) or a 16-bit sigma-delta A/D converter (MSP430F20x3) integrated into them (MSP430F20x3).
