TPS54540DDA Description
The TPS54540 is a step down regulator featuring a high side MOSFET that operates at 42 V, 5 A. As per ISO 7637, the device can withstand load dump pulses of up to 45V. Simple external compensation and versatile component selection are provided via current mode control. The no load supply current is decreased to 146 A in a low ripple pulse skip mode. When the enable pin is pushed low, the shutdown supply current is decreased to 2 A.
Internally, undervoltage lockout is set to 4.3 V, but it can be raised by connecting an enable pin. To ensure a controlled start up and prevent overrun, the output voltage start up ramp is internally controlled. It is possible to optimize either efficiency or external component size with a large switching frequency range. Cycle after cycle, an output current limit is imposed. Internal and exterior components are protected during an overload state by frequency foldback and thermal shutdown. The 8-terminal thermally improved HSOP PowerPADTM package for the TPS54540 is available.
