UC3835N Description
The design of low-cost, low-dropout linear regulators is optimized for the UC3835N linear controller. Dropout voltages of less than 0.5V are easily produced using an external pass element. These components include a precision reference, a 250mA output driver, and a high gain error amplifier. Additionally, the 2.5A peak output current is reduced to less than 0.5A at short circuit thanks to current sense with foldback.
The only external components needed for the fixed 5-volt version are an external pass element, an output capacitor, and a compensation capacitor. With two external resistors, the adjustable version's output voltage can be adjusted from 2.5V to 35V.
Under-voltage lockout for predictable start-up, thermal shutdown, and short circuit current limiting to safeguard the driver device are further features of these devices. In the event of a negative input-to-output differential, a reverse voltage comparator minimizes reverse load current on the fixed voltage version.
