The negative linear-series pass regulators in the UCC384-x family are designed for low-dropout applications where low-quiescent power is crucial. The UCC384-x passes 0.5 A while requiring only 0.2 V of input-voltage headroom. It is constructed using a BCDMOS technology that is appropriate for low input-to-output differential applications.
The dropout voltage is less than 20 mV at 50 mA because the dropout voltage drops linearly with output current. Under typical (non-dropout) circumstances, the device's quiescent current usage is typically 200 A. Only when the gadget is operating close to dropout with low VIN is an integrated charge pump internally enabled. As a result, even with a maximum load current and a VIN of -3.2 V and only a slight increase in quiescent current, the device meets the dropout parameters.
