REG102GA-2.5G4 Description
A family of low-noise, low-dropout linear regulators with low ground pin current is the REG102GA-2.5G4. In comparison to earlier designs, the new DMOS topology offers substantial improvements, such as lower dropout voltage (at 150mV typ at full load), and better transient performance. Furthermore, unlike conventional low-dropout regulators that are difficult to correct for and need expensive low ESR capacitors higher than 1μF, no output capacitor is necessary for stability.
When disabled, the typical ground pin current lowers to 10nA from 600μA (at IOUT = 250mA). Quiescent current, in contrast to regulators with PNP pass devices, remains largely constant over variations in load and dropout situations.
The REG102GA-2.5G4 is perfect for use in portable communications equipment due to its extremely low output noise (usually 28μVrms for VOUT = 3.3V with CNR = 0.01μF). With on-chip trimming, the output voltage is quite accurate. Over temperature, line, and load fluctuations, accuracy is maintained. Over the given temperature range (-40°C to +85°C), key parameters are checked.
The REG102GA-2.5G4 is well protected; internal circuitry sets a current limit to guard against damage to the load and additional thermal protection circuitry guards against damage to the chip from high temperatures. There are three packaging options for the REG102GA-2.5G4: SOT23-5, SOT223-5, and SO-8.
