RJA is the total of the junction-to-case and case-to-ambient thermal resistances, with the solder-mounting surface of the drain pins serving as the case thermal reference. Design guarantees RJC, but board design determines RJA. Based on mounting on a 1 in 2 pad of 2 oz copper, the maximum rating shown here. Starting TJ= 25°C, L = 0.4 mH, IAS = 64 A, VDD = 40 V during inductor charging and VDD = 0 V during time in avalanche.
